About CD Austin

CD Austin is principally owned and operated by Codie Smith. Codie’s 25-year career is founded on building and maintaining brands and public identities.

He began this company as a high schooler and maintained it as a side business until 2007, when he incorporated and made CD Austin his primary focus. From the mid 90s until 2007, he earned a degree in communication design and held full-time positions as a graphic designer with a number of large firms, producing work for global audiences.

Codie is a plug-and-play team member with focused communication abilities, and the experience and intuition to distill a brand’s DNA and purpose it for any media. He has years of practical, hands-on history with nearly every aspect of marketing communications: Graphic design, branding and brand standards, photography, printed collateral, web, mobile, HTML email, onscreen presentations, large format, advertising, trade shows, social media, apparel, and giveaways.

Need something we don’t offer in-house? Codie works with a network of professionals who can offer nearly any service related to public messaging. This might include app development, architects, interiors, event planning, copywriting, cinematography, or strategy. Additionally, Codie has relationships with printers, sign shops and corporate gift brokers in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Codie actively speaks to student and professional groups, and regularly teaches courses in team development, leadership, conflict management and communications. He is an Eagle Scout and heavily involved in today’s Scouting program at the local and regional levels, often leading teams of youth and adults in Scouting’s communication efforts.

ENEMY OF THE STALE

Being interested, as a matter of habit, is recommended.

So here are some interesting things about Codie — He is a licensed pilot, a former Disney Cast Member, a licensed pyrotechnician, a rattlesnake racer, member of Mensa, primo Parrothead, can solve any Rubik’s cube up to 113, loves to travel, has enduring Christian faith, was drum major of his high school marching band, nurses a fiction addiction, and loves to make things. Any things.

On Sustainability

Thoughts from Codie Smith

Growing up in Scouting, I was always taught to leave a campsite cleaner than I found it. The idea stuck, and to me, it applies to everything, up to and including planet Earth. Leave something better than you found it.

I’m not blind to the fact that every printed piece I create—and CD Austin prints more than 250,000 pieces every year—eventually becomes a piece of trash. So we make a solid, bent-over-backward effort to balance sustainable practices with what’s best for our clients. We will always offer design and production solutions that help you reduce your carbon footprint.

We’re proud to support thought leaders in sustainability and a cleaner earth, like Wayfare Energy and Snappers Key Largo. And even our oil & gas clients focus on best practices for efficiency, safety, and environmental stewardship. We hope to lead by example and foster a desire for each of you to leave this place better than you found it.

Be the change you want to see in the world.
